Why is the archive date important?

We recommend always setting an archive date when you initially create a title in NetGalley, for a few reasons:
  • Concentrated buzz and timeline. Since titles on NetGalley are generally pre-publication, scheduling an archive date in advance means that the title will no longer be available for request when it is for sale.
  • Reader communication. Archive dates are highly visible to approved readers, and help them understand how long they have to access your content. In a recent poll, readers noted that one of the top reasons they did not provide feedback for a title is because the title had been archived before they had the chance to download it.
Setting an archive date can help you manage requests, too. As the archive date approaches, NetGalley will automatically put those titles at the top of your Manage Requests page. Remember, readers get very frustrated when they are approved for a title which is then immediately archived before they have the chance to read it!

Archiving is easy to do, helpful in managing your internal workflow, and provides clarity to readers. Read through this section for more information.
